Vinton Depot Farmers Market to take place Thursday nights during June

There will be a Vinton Depot Farmers Market happening for the month of June. Starting next week on Thursday evenings beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Farmers Market will be held at the Train Depot in Vinton. Simply bring your $5 fee on the night of the event if you need a spot to display your goods.

Registrations are accepted right up until race time, but those received through the end of today are guaranteed an official event t-shirt and packet. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 18, in Vinton's Riverside Park and coincides with the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department's annual Party in the Park celebration.

Historic Preservation Commission to host Flea Market in Shellsburg June 12

The Historic Preservation Commission will host their 1st Annual Flea Market this Saturday, June 12th at the Shellsburg City Park from 7am to 3pm. It will feature every facet of a traditional flea market. As an added bonus, the Beast and Bird, a local food truck, will also be at the park, serving lunch from 11am to 2pm. “There will be something here for everyone” comments Edwon Yedlik, a Benton County Preservation Commissioner.

KICK OFF THE BENTON COUNTY FAIR WITH 4-H NIGHT AT THE GRANDSTAND

This year, the Benton County Fair will kick off with an exciting event – 4-H Night at the Grandstand. The entire community is invited to the Benton County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 23 from 6-8:30 p.m. After a ceremonial start with the American Legion Color Guard presenting the flags in an inspiring tribute, enjoy the talented youth of Benton County at the 4-H Share the Fun Talent Show.

George G. Luckey Legion Post to hold Tenderloin Supper this Friday, 5:00 p.m.

George G. Luckey Legion Post in Vinton, located at 105 North R Ave. will be holding a Tenderloin Dinner on Friday, June 11, 2021.Beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. (or while supplies last) the Legion will begin serving an 8 oz. Tenderloin, fries, and a dessert for $10.00,Allergy alert: Please note that peanut oil is used for frying.

7th Annual Bags and Baskets silent Auction begins June 14

Chelsea Peoples, PA-C and Dawson Reach Out & Read is a program in Virginia Gay Hospital Family Medical Clinics (Vinton, Atkins, Urbana and Van Horne) that supports early childhood literacy beginning at birth. At each Well-Child appointment, providers at our clinics give a new book to the child helping to ensure that children grow up with books and a love of reading. Providers use books as a tool to assess development and milestones.

Shellsburg's Big Day July 17

Big Day ParadeShellsburg Big Day Parade starts at 10:30.  Lineup on Cottege St at the corner of Pearl St and Cottege St. (there is a softball tournament so we can't use the school parking lot as before).  The parade contact is Ed Shaeffer at 319-389-2682 or email eshaeff@gmail.com.  The fee for the parade is $10 and will go to local projects.

BENTON COUNTY HISTORICAL PRESERVATION 1ST ANNUAL FLEA MARKET June 12

On June 12, beginning at 7:00 am and running until to 3:00 pm, the Benton County Historic Preservation Commission will hold a flea market to bring awareness to the historic bridge located next to the park. AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS - POST 166 TO HOST A BENEFIT RIDE JUNE 5TH

The American Legion Riders, Post #166, out of Shellsburg, will be holding a benefit ride on Saturday, June 5th  9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to raise money to help our veterans, their families, including those that serve them and our communities.
